  • Sadhvi is a century old daily KANNADA EVENING from Mysore. Started in the year 1899. Sadhvi has played a very important role in the freedom struggle of India.
  • Sharp editorials of Sadhvi motivated thousands of youth of old Mysore province to jump into the freedom struggle. Partnered by the Pro-Independence editorial policy of Sadhvi the erst while British government of India had banned the publication of Sadhvi twice.
  • This incident stands out as a milestone in the annals of Kannada journalism.
  • The logo of women holding a national flag and the name ‘SADHVI’ made out of 12 fishes is popular even today.
  • Renowned freedom fighter Sri M.Venkata krishniah popularly known as
  • “The grand old man of Mysore”
  • And ‘the father of kannada journalism’ started Sadhvi in the year 1899.
  • He vehemently fought against the high handedness of the British Government through his sharp editorials.
  • In 1908, Sri M.Venkata krishniah stopped the publication of Sadhvi to protest of Sadhvi to protest against promulgation of the Mysore press Act.
  • The publication again resumed in 1909. The British banned the publications in 1928 for carrying reports of” Sultanpet Ganapathi Disturbance”.
  • Sri M.Venkata krishniah passed away in 1933.
  • Asaram Ransiah a renowned freedom fighter resumed the publication of Sadhvi as its editor.
  • In 1934, Asaram Ransiah was arrested for publishing articles on formation of responsible government in Mysore.
  • Sadhvi again banned back in 1941. Asaram Ransiah continued to edit Sadhvi till 1991.
  • Dr.Thyagaraj Iyer published Sadhvi for two years.
  • Sri C.Maheshwaran, took over the ownership of Sadhvi in 1993. Sadhvi celebrated its centenary celebrations in 1999, through self less service to mankind by starting a N G O “SADHVI FOUNDATION”
  • Since Sadhvi has been promoting awareness on various social issues like, Ill - effect of drug abuse and Ill- effect of drug trafficking.
  • Sadhvi was publishing a magazine in Braille script for the visually impaired; it will be replaced by talking tools for the blind.
